Supporters of Sen. Bernie Sanders vented their outrage Monday after the Vermont senator endorsed Joe Biden for president.
The endorsement came five days after Sanders ended his presidential campaign
“We have to make Trump a one-term president and we need you in the White House,” Sanders told Biden during a livestream conversation on Monday. “We need you in the White House. And I will do all that I can to make that happen.”
But the endorsement, seen as a potential sign of unity between progressive and moderate Democrats ahead of the November election, did not sit well with a number of Sanders’ supporters.
“With the utmost respect for Bernie Sanders, who is an incredible human being & a genuine inspiration, I don’t endorse Joe Biden,” tweeted Briahna Joy Gray, Sanders’ campaign press secretary, according to Fox News
“I supported Bernie Sanders because he backed ideas like #MedicareForAll, canceling ALL student debt, & a wealth tax. Biden supports none of those,” she added.

Gray also lashed out at Biden on Sunday in response to a New York Times story on Tara Reade, a former Senate staffer of Biden’s, who accused Biden of sexually assaulting her during the early 1990s.
“I’m not sure how that line from the NYT’s long-delayed coverage of Tara Reade’s accusation can sit alongside reporting that 7 other women have accused Biden of sexual misconduct,” Gray tweeted.
Black Lives Matter activist and Sanders supporter Shaun King slammed Biden on Monday for needing a teleprompter during his conversation with Sanders.
“I can hardly believe what I am watching. In his conversation with @BernieSanders – @JoeBiden is clearly reading from a TelePrompTer. It’s supposed to be a CONVERSATION. I’ve never seen this happen in my entire life,” King wrote.
He added: “Never in my life have I seen a leader require a Teleprompter and script TO HAVE A CONVERSATION with someone. It’s insulting. It’s bizarre.”

King also penned an online article outlining some of the conditions that have to be met before he endorses Biden.
“I’ve now counted at least 50 times that @JoeBiden blatantly lied about his participation in the Civil Rights Movement from sit-ins he never participated in to marches he was not a part of, to being trained in Black churches as a boy,” King wrote. “He must apologize & explain this.”
CNN contributor Abdul El-Sayed also responded to Sanders’ endorsement, tweeting: “There’s no way around the disappointment that Bernie Sanders won’t be President.”
“Biden’s message was about the past. But going back to ‘normal’ where 1/10 Americans were uninsured, gigs displaced jobs, & action on #climatechange was halting is a NONSTARTER after #COVID showed just how broken ‘normal’ really was for too many,” El-Sayed added.
First, there’s no way around the disappointment that Bernie Sanders won’t be President.
