It’s still up in the air if Donald Trump will run for President again.
That isn’t slowing down other Republicans from laying the groundwork for a potential White House campaign.
And Mike Pence revealed he was taking this one big step toward running for President in 2024.
By virtue of serving for four years as Vice President, Mike Pence would automatically be a top tier candidate for President when he chooses to run.
Some Trump supporters will never accept Pence after Pence affirmed the results of the 2020 election on January 6.
But that isn’t stopping Pence from plowing ahead with a White House bid.
The latest move by Pence was starting an issue advocacy group called Advancing American Freedom, which Pence claims is dedicated to promoting the successful Trump administration policies and opposing Joe Biden’s socialist agenda.
Former Vice President Mike Pence today launches Advancing American Freedom, a policy and advocacy organization “to promote the pro-freedom policies of the last four years.”
The big picture: After lying low since the inauguration 77 days ago, Pence said the 501(c)(4)’s goals include “promoting traditional conservative values and promoting the successful policies of the Trump administration.”
The group also will “oppose the expansion of government” under the Biden administration.
The list of people supporting the group – which included Newt Gingrich, Kellyanne Conway, Larry Kudlow, and Scott Walker – also read like a group of endorsements for a 2024 Presidential campaign.
Mike Pence has clearly always wanted to run for President.
His strained relationship with President Trump may be a roadblock to those ambitions.
But it’s clear that Pence has a base of support and it is going to make a go of it in 2024.
