Ilhan Omar thought her status as a member of the “Squad” and popularity with the Democrat Party grassroots made her bulletproof against any political payback.
The Minnesota Congresswoman thought wrong.
And now Ilhan Omar got the surprise of her life when one top Democrat stabbed her in the back.
Ilhan Omar’s penchant for scandal and racism may have finally caught up with her.
Omar now risks being one of the handful of sitting members of the House of Representatives that loses their primary challenge each year.
In every case so far, the primary challenger that unseated a sitting member attacked them from the Left.
But in Omar’s case, the challenge is coming from whatever now counts as the “center” in the Democrat Party.
And Antone Melton-Meaux – the Minneapolis Attorney challenging Omar – is raking in big bucks including a $1,000 donation from Colorado’s Democrat Governor Jared Polis.
The Washington Examiner reports:
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis made a significant donation to the campaign of Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar’s primary opponent.
According to campaign finance records, Polis, a Democrat, donated $1,000 to Antone Melton-Meaux, a Minneapolis attorney who is running as a Democrat in the primary race for Omar’s seat, on Monday.
It is unheard of for other elected officials to support a primary challenge to a sitting member of Congress.
But Omar’s history of racism and anti-Semitism makes hers a special case.
From her earliest days in Congress back in 2019, Omar courted controversy by accusing Jewish donors of pulling the strings of American politicians.
Omar was never held accountable because of her popularity with the party base.
That may be changing. And Omar’s well funded primary opponent drawing the support of prominent elected Democrats could mean Omar’s time in Congress is nearly up.
