Biden Faces Intense Backlash Over Remark: “America was an idea that we’ve never lived up to”

by Mike Santorini

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden is facing criticisms for referring to America as “an idea” that “we’ve never lived up to.” The clip, which is a part of his interview with “Unlocking Us with Brené Brown” podcast that was released earlier on Wednesday, was shared on his own Twitter account later in the evening.

“America was an idea, an idea,” the former vice president said. “We hold these truths to be self evident. We’ve never lived up to it, but we’ve never walked away from it before. And I just think we have to be more honest. Let our kids know, as we raise them, what actually did happen. Acknowledge our mistakes so we don’t repeat them.”

In his post, he captioned the clip as: “America was an idea. We’ve never lived up to it but we’ve never walked away from it before.”

Following his tweet, many Twitter users were quick to react, especially from the Republicans.

Fox News Channel contributor Lisa Boothe commented that Joe should move to Canada, to which another user responded with: “No thanks. You can keep him. We have enough of our own #@%# going on here.”

Take a look at other comments below:

My home is not “an idea.” I grew up here, my family grew up here, my ancestors built it, I can trace my lineage to men who fought in the Revolution. People love this country. It’s not just an idea, something abstract to “live up to.”

You are unfit to lead this nation.

The American people are the most compassionate on Earth, yet this guy wants you to feel ashamed for…being American..Hard pass..
